policy

This explains the cookies we use on this site, what each one does, and how to change your mind at any time.

Cookies are small files stored on your device when you visit a website. Some are needed to make the site work. Others help us understand how the site is used. We also use similar technologies such as local storage, and where we say "cookies" below we mean those too.

necessary cookies

These are needed for the site to function - for the shop, checkout and security - so they're set without asking. Our site runs on Squarespace, and these come from the platform:

  • CART and hasCart: record that you've added something to your basket. Two weeks.

  • CHECKOUT_WEBSITE: identifies the right site when you check out. Session only.

  • Crumb and siteUserCrumb: protect against cross-site request forgery, a form of attack on logged-in users. Session, and three years.

  • _ssid: helps detect fraud. Four years.

  • SiteUserInfo and SiteUserSecureAuthToken: identify and authenticate you if you have a customer account. Three years.

  • orderStatusSessionToken: signs you in to an order status page. One year.

  • RecentRedirect: stops redirect loops. 30 minutes.

  • Test and _dd_cookie_test: check whether your browser accepts cookies. Session, or instant.

  • squarespace-announcement-bar and squarespace-popup-overlay: remember that you dismissed a banner or pop-up, so it doesn't reappear. Stored in local storage.

Two more record your own cookie choices, so we don't ask again every visit:

  • ss_performancecookiesAllowed and ss_marketingcookiesAllowed: remember whether you agreed to analytics or marketing cookies. 30 days.

Our legal basis for all of these is that they are strictly necessary to provide the service you asked for, so consent isn't required.

analytics cookies

These are only set if you accept them. They tell us how many people visit, which pieces get looked at, and where visitors arrive from. We use this to decide what to make and what to put in the shop; not to identify you personally.

  • ss_cid, ss_cpvisit and ss_cvr: recognise returning visitors and track sessions. Two years.

  • ss_cvisit and ss_cvt: track the current session. 30 minutes.

Our legal basis is your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.

third parties

Some cookies come from services we use rather than from us:

  • Squarespace hosts the site and sets the necessary and analytics cookies above. squarespace.com/privacy

  • Stripe processes payments through Squarespace Payments and sets cookies at checkout for fraud prevention. stripe.com/gb/privacy

  • Mailchimp hosts our mailing list and may set cookies if you sign up through a form on this site. intuit.com/privacy

We don't allow these providers to use information from our site for their own advertising.

changing your mind

You can change or withdraw your consent at any time using the Cookie preferences link in the footer of every page. Your choices are remembered for 30 days, after which we'll ask again.

You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings - Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Edge all provide controls, though blocking necessary cookies may stop the shop working properly.

information sent outside the UK

Squarespace, Stripe and Mailchimp are based in the United States, so some information collected through these cookies is transferred there. Stripe and Mailchimp are certified under the UK Extension to the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework. Where that doesn't apply, we rely on the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or the UK Addendum to the Standard Contractual Clauses.

your rights

Where cookie data is personal data, you have the right to ask for a copy of it, to have it corrected or deleted, to restrict or object to how we use it, and to withdraw consent. Our Privacy Policy sets these out in full, along with how to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.
